Hypoallergenic No Shed Dogs
Hypoallergenic no shed dogs are unique in tha they do not usually shed and their fur is hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic is defined as something that is safe for kids and adults with allergies to be around without the dire consequences suffered when a non-hypooallergenic dog is present.
There are many that would dispute the claim that there is such a thing as a hypooallergenic dog but there are many pople with allergies that keep these dogs as pets and they appear to be free from any allergic reactions.
Dander
One definition of dander has to do with anger, like get one’s dander up, but the definition we want is that dander is “small scales from animal skins or hair or bird feathers that can cause allergic reaction in some people”. The scales are protein based and are produced in the subaceous glands in the skin of most mamals that produce an oily substance called sebum. Sebum protects the hair and skin with its oily base and lubricates and preventsw drying. It is generally associated with hair follicles, but in the absence of hair the sebum is exuded through ducts in the skin. This is a natural process and occurs all the time in mamals. Even a hairless dog will produce allergen, dander.
Saliva
Saliva is the next culprit in causing allergic reactions. There are four salivary glands in dogs, cats too. It is another protein. This yuchy stuff serves many roles and is essential to your dogs health:
Evaporative Cooling – dogs have very poorly developed seat glands and they cool themselves off by panting
Initiates Digestion of starches – starch is converted to a sugar
Lubrication and binding – binds chewed food into a slippery bolus that slides down the throat easily
Oral Hygiene – heathy spit keeps you fit applies to bothdogs and man. Saliva flushes away food debris and keeps the mouth clean. Saliva secreation diminishes during the night and explains stinky dog breath
Stabilizes dry dog food – makes dry food saluable
