When To Buy Hypoallergenic Dogs

You can buy a hypoallergenic dog at any time as long as the breeder has dogs available . Many people are unsure whether to buy a puppy, a young adult, or an older dog when they are looking for a dog. A hypoallergenic dog is a good choice at any stage in the dog’s life. The time and energy you have to devote to the dog should play a major role in the age of the dog that you bring home. All dogs require love and attention, but puppies can be more work because they are playful, curious, and do not like being alone.

If you decide to buy a hypoallergenic puppy, you will have to train it, make sure that it has a warm place to sleep when you are not at home, and you will have to discipline it when it misbehaves. Puppies are fun to watch, but they can be very destructive. For many people, however, training a dog from the time it is very young makes it easier to discipline throughout the dog’s life. Dogs are intelligent animals that can be taught a routine within a few weeks of their arrival. Having the time to train the dog is what is required from pet owners who buy puppies.

Puppies are not for everyone. Buying a hypoallergenic dog that is a year or older is the answer for those who have limited time to train their dog. Young adult dogs are still active, but they are less curious than puppies. If you want a dog that enjoys getting exercise, lets you know when they need to pee, and sleeps for longer periods of time, then a young adult is the right dog for you. Depending on the breed, you will have to board your dog when travelling as some breeds can panic when left alone.

Dogs that are five or older can usually be found in animal shelters or dog pounds. These dogs probably had previous owners and were either abandoned or mistreated. If you want an older dog that will require even less training than a young adult, then you should visit your local animal shelter. While some of these dogs may need extra love and time to earn your trust, you will find that they will adjust to their new home quickly.

Hypoallergenic dogs need more care than other dogs because they are usually smaller and have coats that need to be groomed more often. The age of the dog you buy will be determined by the breed you are looking for, the availability of different breeds from breeders, pet stores and animal shelters, and the amount of time you have to train and build trust in your new dog. If you have a family, you will also have to consider which breed to buy as well as the age of the dog. Buying the right dog may take some time, but if you look in different places, you will find the right hypoallergenic dog for you and your family.

Hypoallergenic Dogs For Allergy Dog Lovers

Hypoallergenic dog has a lowered tendency to cause allergies or reactions to allergy dog lovers. There are no pure 100% hypoallergenic dogs! People with allergies react to different breeds of dogs differently. Each person has a unique allergic threshold.

The dander is the problem to allergy suffers, and definetely not the hair. Hypoallergenic dogs still produce allergens but certain coat models will produce less than others. Dogs with two coats produce fewallergens, and the hairless models can even produce enough dander to effect allergy people.

If you wonder your dog if it will affect you although its a hypoallergenic dog ask your breeder if you can see one of his dogs. Visit directly the breeder’s from home and stay 20-30 minutes then go directly home and notice what happens. Here is a list of some of the hypoallergenic dogs to choose:

Golden Retrievers
Labrador Retrievers
American Hairless Terrier-medium size
Siberian Huskies
Basenji-medium
Bichon Frise
Alaskan Malamutes
Border Terrier-small
American Eskimos
Cairn-medium size
Chihuahuas
Chinese Crested (hairless)-medium size
Havanese
Shiba Inus
Kerry Blue Terrier-medium size
Maltese
Miniature Schnauzer
Portuguese Water Dog-medium size
Shih Tzu
Samoyeds
Spanish Water Dog-medium size
Standard Schnauzer-medium size
Chow Chows
Tibetan Terrier-medium size
Catahoula Leopard Dogs
Poodle
Bernese Mountain Dogs
West Highland White Terrier-medium size
Wirehaired Fox Terrier-medium size
Border Collies
Yorkshire Terrier

They are hybrid dogs that are also good choice for allergic people. These dogs have few or no dander. Here are some to choose:

Cockapoo
Labradoodle
Yorkipoo

Air purifier and a good vacuum are useful to keep allergies down.

Of course, grooming and bathing your dog frequently could help however some dogs can not be bathed too frequently because it causes dry skin problems.

Please do a research on different types of dogs, ask your breeders and a veterinarian to get complete information you need to help you find the perfect dog for you.

The Best Night Dog

A result of breeding, between the Bulldogs and the Mastiffs, the Bullmastiff inherited from the latter the stature and body, being at the same time fast and active like Bulldogs. Loyal, gentle, a good companion and play mate for children, he still remains and excellent guard dog.

Although the Bullmastiff gains official recognition in the year 1924, the modern breed being created from the early XVIIst century, it is obvious that between the two breeds there have always existed crossings. Both of British origin, but differently orientated through selection, they gave the final product a sum of qualities very appreciated among the breed lovers.

The main reason this breed was creates is the mixture of guardian abilities with courage, seeking to obtain a dog faster than the Mastiff that could protect hunting guards and can also help capturing and immobilizing illegal hunters. Actually the Bullmastiff was once called the Gamekeeper’s Night Dog, which means the night dog of the hunting guard.

It appears that perfecting the breed took some time – almost 30 years – its creator admitting the fact that he started with settling the standards, and only then achieving the correct mixture. Soon, the Bullmastiff gained fans all over the world and it was preferred to Mastiff because he was smaller, easier to control and to raise.

The Bullmastiff, a dog that will never act naturally violent, must not be abused in any way. He feels at his best next to a master that has lots of patience. In society he is pretty quiet and relaxed, assuming he has been brought in contact with people since he was little. When he is still a puppy he must grow used to petting and to strangers.

Equipped for guarding, the Bullmastiff has some incredibly quick reactions and he will protect his owner even with his life. In family he is a pleasing friend, loving and patient with little children. Playful, he will love children and let them do anything to him without fighting back. He needs wide spaces to exercise and run freely. But to be always around his master, the Bullmastiff will adapt to an apartment life as well.

Your Dog’s Good Health Starts With Good Nutrition

Good health starts with good nutrition. It helps dogs fight disease, grow correctly, and age gracefully. Giving your puppy or adult dog the correct dog food in the correct amounts makes for a happier, healthier pet.

Dogs need different diets as they age. Puppies usually require larger amounts of protein, fat and carbohydrates than an adult dog. Their bodies are going through tremendous growth in a short amount of time and so dog food rich in these items are very important.

However, different dog breeds require different amounts of calcium, protein, and fat. It’s been found that puppies of larger breeds need less protein and grow at a healthier rate on adult dog food because it doesn’t promote the fast growth that puppy food does.

Dog breeds such as Great Danes, Irish Wolfhounds and Saint Bernards can grow at phenomenal rates, some gaining 100 pounds in months. When bones grow too fast they become less dense and more porous, leaving the dog more vulnerable to degenerative conditions.

In some areas puppy food is available specifically for different breed sizes. It’s recommended that owners talk to their vet about what dog food is best for their puppy.

Feeding schedules are different for the age and the size of the animal. Small-breed puppies such as Yorkies and Chihuahuas may not get the energy they need unless they are fed 3-4 times a day for the first few months.

There are special formulas for small breeds. They typically come in smaller kibble so it’s easier for the dog to eat, as well as being higher in nutrition so the dog gets the necessary energy they need for their higher metabolism.

Extra calories are needed by dog athletes and working dogs to provide the energy they need each day. There are custom-made formulas that contain a high percentage of calories from protein and fat.

Elderly dogs have completely different needs than puppies, younger dogs and working dogs. They need less protein while at the same time the protein needs to be easily assimilated into the body and easily digestible. Too much protein can lead to burdening the renal structures and may damage the kidneys.

Arthritis, heart disease and other age-related conditions could mean less exercise and so less food. However, senior dogs that remain active, have a healthy weight, and are free from serious health problems don’t necessarily need a senior diet.

Some senior diets have reduced protein levels. But healthy seniors need sufficient protein to help maintain muscle mass. Owners need to check with their dog’s vet to determine the best formula and the correct amount for their elderly dog.

A stage that some female dogs go through is the pregnancy stage. This requires a different diet and schedule. Females in the pregnancy stage require a balanced nutrition with proper supplementation of vitamins and minerals.

Later, when they are nursing the puppies, they need enough calcium so the bones of the puppies will be strong.

As your dog advances through each stage it’s necessary to check how your dog is doing. If there is a change in weight, mobility, coat quality, or any other health aspect in your dog you need to discuss it with your vet. It is possible that your dog needs a change in diet.

In these modern times of growing allergy problems, people often talk about “hypoallergenic dogs” and “non-shedding dogs”.

But what do these terms actually mean? What is a hypoallergenic dog? Do some breeds of dog really not shed hair?

The official dictionary definition of hypoallergenic (or hypo-allergenic) is “having a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic reaction”.
It’s important to remember that something hypoallergenic will NOT cause an allergic reaction.

The scientific fact of the matter is that:
1. No dog is totally hypoallergenic
2. No dog is totally non shedding.

The AAFA (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America) estimate that as many as 10 million people suffer from some form of allergy in America. Small wonder there are so many people out there looking for a pet that won’t make them sneeze or wheeze all day long.

The good news for dog lovers is….

Firstly, although nothing is guaranteed, an allergy sufferer is far LESS likely to suffer a reaction with a hypoallergenic dog breed. They may well suffer no reaction at all.
Secondly, cats are far more likely to cause allergies than dogs!

We know that this to be true in our family. We chose our Miniature Schnauzer Max because of allergies and now – four years later – we can honestly say that we have virtually no allergic reaction to him . (There’s an occasional sneeze when he’s in need of a bath or a trip to the groomers for trimming, but that’s it!) Choosing a hypoallergenic dog breed was a smart move on our part.

Another bonus is that we don’t really find any dog hairs around the house, which is great when you’re as averse to housework as I am! When friends visit with their dogs – namely Ruby the Cairn Terrier and – even worse – Charlie the Labrador Retriever (lovely dog, but loads of fur which he’s not particularly attached to…..), I’m finding dog hair around the house for weeks afterwards.

By the way, a dog is hypoallergenic BECAUSE it is non-shedding. The coats of non shedding dogs do not trap dander like the heavy undercoated dogs do.

You probably think that allergy sufferers are allergic to animal fur, but that’s not the case. What they’re actually reacting to are proteins – or allergens. These are secreted by the animal’s oil glands and then shed with the dander, which are dead skin cells. (These proteins are also found in dog saliva and urine.)

All dogs – even the “hairless ” breeds have dander, saliva and urine. Non shedding dog breeds – such as all three types of Schnauzer – have a double coat. The outer coat is hard and wiry, the undercoat softer and close to the skin.

This type of coat sheds only if you leave the dog ungroomed for months on end. Hypoallergenic dogs hardly molt. (You might find the occasional dog hair around the house). Therefore, non shedding puppies are a popular choice for pet allergy sufferers.

If you’re thinking of getting one, try and spend some time alone with the pup at the breeder’s to see what – if any – reaction you have. Your allergic symptoms do not always happen immediately – sometimes there can be a couple of days’ delay. They can also vary from one breed to another – or even from one dog to another within the same breed.

Of course, there’s no guarantee with allergies. But one thing you CAN be sure of is that your chances of having an allergic reaction to a dog are far LESS if you choose a non shedding and hypoallergenic breed.

Surprisingly, there are over 40 hypoallergenic dog breeds. To find out which they are, follow this link for the List of Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds.

Good Luck!
