Small Breed dogs that do not Shed
If you are looking for small breed dogs that are not covered, or covered only a little, you may find yourself looking for the ends of the earth for the special dog. Unfortunately, all dogs shed, just a few degs covered a lot more than others.
The first thing to do is erase everything we have heard, and most of what you read if you want to find a smaller dog that does not leave. For example, although most dogs that are known as “without shedding of” short-haired dogs, some of the worst offenders in the department of dumping are short-haired dogs! It really depends on the breed. The second thing you need to do is understand that ALL dogs shed, but some dogs shed inward instead of outward. What this means is that a dog that does not leave the house will have a “layer” and that’s where all the hair is going to go. Instead of having to clean your hair around the house. you’ll have to brush your dog, probably on a daily basis or every two days. If not, your dog’s hair will become dull and will have a big mess on your hands. Besides the big mess, matted hair can be painful for your dog that pulls the skin. Unfortunately, if you allow your dog’s hair to become matted, you or the abuser may not be able to leave and the dog has to be shaved down. Here is a short list of small dog breeds do not shed, or “shedding” dogs:
Chinese Crested
Shih Tzu
Poodle
Boston Terrier
Border Terrier
Silky Terrier
More, and there are dogs that shed a little more, but do not cover your house in dog hair.
Just remember what we tell our customers ask us about preparation of the dogs that shed … “If you go to a new dog, you are either going to need a vacuum or a dog brush.
