There are many people who would like a dog but cant because they are allergic to the dog hair others don’t want to have to clean up dog hair up every day. Although people tend to think all dog hair is the same, it does vary between breeds and some dog hair is a great deal shorter than others. These dogs tend not to shed their hair which makes them ideal pets for allergy sufferers and people with very clean houses.
Although non shedding dogs are thought of to be ideal for allergy sufferers there will still be a proportion of people who still can’t have a dog. These breeds of dogs are more likely to be suited to these homes though; the best way to find out is to spend time with the dog beforehand. If you can be around the dog without any reaction occurring then this is a good sign and you may be ok to have the dog.

American hairless terriers are ideal for people with allergies as they are classed as a hairless breed; they are born with incredibly short fuzzy hair. After a while the hair falls out leaving the dog with no hair at all. Although these are great if you are looking for a non hair shedding dog they do need special care to ensure they are kept warm in winter and cool in summer. Another good bred is a Schnauzer as it has a wiry coat and sheds very occasionally as does a Scottish terrier which has a very similar coat.
Hunting dogs are often the breeds which seem to have non shedding hair these breeds include poodles, terriers and spaniels. These are all ideal if you don’t want a dog that leaves plenty of hair lying around. Greyhounds are also ideal as they have very short hair and although the shed it is very rarely and you will not really notice. Maltese dogs are ideal dogs for smaller environments as they are so small. Although they have very long hair which is very unusual with non hair shedding dogs the hair does not shed and as long as it is groomed regularly there will be no problems.

Just because you have an allergy doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying having a dog, with some research you will be able to find the breeds which are suited best to you.  You can still enjoy having a pet with no worries that your dog will make you ill. There are several different breeds to choose from and you won’t be limited to one or two breeds. If you research well and talk to a vet or dog breeder they will be able to advice on the best dog for you. If you are worried that the dog will cause you problems then you can arrange to spend time with the dog, as you will not want to get attached to the dog and then have to give it back.
